I am going to paris in 2 weeks for 5 days, i have a budget of 400 euros for eating and sightseeing, all hotels and flights etc have been paid for, and i plan to buy a carte orange, along with airport transfers this will leave me about €370

i plan to eat at restaurants once a day and then eat on the go.

will the €370 be enough for eating out 5 times, and then 5 days sightseeing?? bearing in mind i am an EU citizen under 18 so many museums etc are free:-)

would the 370 euros be enough to do this?? or would i need more?? if so how much?? realistic answers please im not going to the ritz!!

  1. *Cheap* meals are about 10euros a day - you have to think of bottles of water and snacks or something - might have to go supermarket shopping for fruits or something so you're not eating literally only one meal a day. I think increasing it to 500 euros would probably leave you feeling less panicky if things turn out to be more expensive - you MUST keep "urgency" money in case of something going wrong - i.e. an emergency - like if for any reason you have to stay at a hotel for longer cos flights get cancelled, etc. NEVER EVER travel without a source of this 'urgency' money. Have fun :)

  2. Alot of sightseeing can be free! eg. Notre Dame, (unless u go up the top),mont martre, famous graveyards, boat along the seine (batobus- almost free, it's the equivelent to taking the bus)L'arc d'Triumph (unless u climb it). The Lourve and climbing the Eiffel Tower is a must, so budget for them. Other than that, most places are free of charge. You can pretty much spend as much or as little as you like in Paris, for example i went 4 years ago with a friend on a very tight budget &stayed in a hostel & ate in cheap restuarants like Flunch (avoid like the plague!:) and Mc Donalds (shameful i know especially in Paris!), there is also loads of little pastry shops where u can get a filled baguette for around €3-€4. (Mont martre is another area free &well worth a visit!) This year i went with my now fiance who proposed to me over there & we spent a small fortune on fancy restuarants, shopping and sightseeing. I dunno if you are an age that can go clubbing, but it is expensive, most places have a hefty cover charge & drinks are around €6-€10 each.

All in all i reckon €370 is plenty to be able to enjoy Paris comfortably for 5 days- just dont go crazy spending in La Fayette!:-) Best of luck!

  3. Plenty!!! but if you take more you can do more, sight seeing is cool, but try to enter the culture too. see a show or something.

Buy a Shirt, lovely colours and a good referance for when they win the Euros. what a street party to be involved with.

  4. The Carte Orange is a good idea, as someone mentioned.  Also for good scenic views, go to Montmatre (Sacré Coeur) as it is on a natural slope.

For meals, in addition to the restaurants that you are going to, try the Flunch self service restaurants.  They are good value for money with "all you can eat deals".

Ask your hotel receptionist if the hotel keeps free maps of Paris, as well as Pariscope (Paris's equivalent of What's On)

Have a great time, and take full advantage of the student deals.  Take your Uni card with you.

  5. That's about how much I usually spend for a 9 day trip, so it should be plenty for your shorter trip.  Here's how I make a tight meals budget work in Paris...

for breakfast, pick up a croissant or pastry from a boulangerie/patisserie and eat it in the park or visit McDonalds and get the trois plus boisson (3 bite-size pastries and a hot tea/coffee).

for lunch, eat a full 3-course lunch in a cafe (meals are cheaper at lunch time), and I ask for a carafe d'eau (a pitcher of water) instead of buying expensive bottled water.

for dinner, visit the market for some fruit, cheese, and bread to eat for dinner.

My budget usually allows me a little splurge or two during my stay -- an afternoon sitting at a table outside a cafe drinking hot chocolate or a visit to a fancy patisserie for a rich, satisfying pastry.

I also always buy one 1-litre bottle of water on my first day in Paris, then just fill it up at water fountains during the rest of my stay.  This is especially important in the summer!

  6. i went for 4 days with £150 about 200 euro (i think) it was well enough, cheap deals near notre dam and great food for about 15 euro for a 2 or three course, try the greek restaurant its good value and great food.

U will even have enough left to buy souvenirs!

    Have a gud time

    :)

  7. Seems reasonable if you are careful where you eat.  Paris is full of very affordable restaurants.   That's around €74 a day so you should be fine!

You could always really scrimp and eat at the "Turk Grec" places.  They're cheap but it gets old after a while.  Or there are the pizza by the slice places that are 5-7 euros for two slices and a drink.

Look for the "Formulaire" places that have good food for 12 euros that includes everything.

My fav place when I want to eat good for less is "Monte Carlo" restaurant on Ave Wagram near Arc du Triomphe.  It's a cafeteria with good French food for 9-12 euros.

No worries.  Have fun in Paris.

  8. Yeah that should be fine....I suggest you go on one of the open topped buses that you see all around Paris...you can buy a ticket and hop on an off as much as you want....and they take you past everything you want to see......very good value...there are reasonabe pavement cafes, but beware, they sometimes charge you more for sitting outside, than sitting inside.....Have a great trip.

  9. I would advise looking around for the cheaper restaurants, but you're in luck because you can get some very nice Moroccan food at very good prices in Paris. You could eat quite well for under €20 if you look around.
