I live in Toronto right now, and have a b1/b2 type visa. I am going on an organized trip to NY during may for 3 days, and by that time - my visa will expire within 3 months. The trip organizers said i need to have it valid for at least 6 months after the trip in order to enter the US. do you think i will be able to pass the border even though my visa will be valid on three months onwards, and not 6?

Thanks for the help, and I hope my question makes sense...

  1. There may be a communication breakdown and some confusion - your passport should generall be valid for at least 6 months beyond the time of your departure.  The visa need only be valid on the day you seek to enter the US.

  2. You can enter and exit the US anytime before the expiration date, even one day before because you are in canada the closest country to the US

  3. You should be able to pass since it's not expired. However, still will depends on the custom because you might need to provide something or they might ask something to you to make sure you are going back to your country and not becoming illegal alien in US. If you have a good record on being a good tourist then they might let you pass easily. Still you have to put caution because the Homeland Security is very strict nowdays. Goodluck!
