Triple Crown Award winner Miguel Cabrera ready for more action – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera has looked in terrific form since the start of the season. His ability to hit home-runs and steal walks has created all sorts of problems for the American League pitchers. Leading the league in home-runs, RBI’s and batting
average, he became only the second Tigers’ hitter to win the Triple Crown Award.
Credit should be given to Cabrera for giving results on regular basis. He loves to dominate the pitchers and that’s what he has done throughout this season. In his five year tenure with the Tigers, Cabrera has shown great improvement in his game play. In
2008, Cabrera posted some impressive numbers, leading the American League with 37 home-runs.
His excellent form continued in 2010 when he drove in 126 RBI’s. Finishing 2011 season with an incredible .344 batting average, he helped Tigers claim the American League Central Division title for the first time in almost 30-years.
"It takes the pressure off you individually, and it takes the press away from talking to you each day about," said Frank Robinson, who won the Triple Crown Award in 1966. "The focus is on the team and that really helps. I can't imagine trying to win a Triple
Crown and the team is out of the race."
"You know, I'd like to see what some of the pitchers would throw today with their speeds if they came off the higher mound. I could see (Tigers ace Justin) Verlander probably throwing 100 miles per hour or more on every pitch," Carl Yastrzemski said.
The numbers keeps on getting better for Cabrera. He finished 2012 season, leading all three categories of Triple Crown Award with 44 home-runs 139 RBI’s and .330 average. It will not be wrong to say that he has completely out-classed one of the best hitters
in the game; his team-mate Prince Fielder.
However, Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be expecting his third baseman to continue his good work during the playoffs as well. Although the Tigers have won two consecutive AL Central titles, it’s been a while since they have lifted the World Series trophy.
It will be interesting to see Cabrera help them do that.
