Tripod with IS lens?

is it good to use a IS lens and a tripod? ....or not? .... how do you turn off the IS feature or is it always on the lens no matter what?

I heard its not good to have IS and the tripod.

  1. it is advisable to TURN OFF the IS when using the tripod.. it makes for the lens to pretend there's camera shake when in fact there's none.

  2. Yes, if your camera is mounted on a tripod, turn the IS off. But, you might also want to set the delay timer to prevent camera movement when you press the shutter release.

  3. I do not believe that it would be any problem to have IS on while using a tripod.

    That doesn't make any 'photographical' sense, IS helps to stabilize the image, but that's not always good enough, so sometimes you still have to use a tripod, you don't have to turn off the IS to use a tripod, that's silly :). IS doesn't always come and save the day . The IS and the tripod together won't affect the image at all. You can leave the IS setting alone, it's not really going to make a difference.

  5. Actually, the answer is there are two modes of IS for more advanced lenses. And you would switch it to mode 2, which is for horizontal panning, or turn it off all together, if you want to use a tripod.
