Trish Johnson finishes tied for fourth in India
English Trish Johnson made a last-ditch effort in the final round of Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012, as shooting a solid 69 was enough to place her inside the top five on the leaderboard.
Johnson shot an overall 213 to take a share of the fourth position along with Spanish Carlota Ciganda and Stefania Croce.
The English star grabbed spectators attention on Sunday at DLF Golf & Country Club as she saw a significant increase in her leaderboard position. She made perfect strokes on the greens and managed to card a 69, which helped her rise from the 13th to fourth position on the leaderboard.
Johnson started the three-day tournament a bit slow as she could not make the most of favourable conditions. But still she managed to card a 72 in the first round.
The opening round saw her launch three birdies, but she also faltered on some holes, carding three bogeys.
Johnson kept her momentum going in the second round, as she tried to ramp up pressure on rivals by making perfect shots on the greens.
She managed to post four birdies on Saturday, but had to suffer two bogeys and one double bogey.
Commentators said that Johnson appears to be in high spirits, but her rivals were quick enough to capitalise on the favourable course conditions.
The third round was the scene of a tough battle that saw Johnson unveil her best skills on the greens. She opened the round with a birdie on the first hole and then parred the next four holes in a row.
Pornanong Phatlum of Thailand was the star performer of the tournament as she posted a total score of 203 to win the title. It was Phatlum’s third victory of the Ladies European Tour (LET) tournament—something that has made her best player of Indian Open so far.
Speaking to the media at the end of the tournament on Sunday, the winner said that she knew that she could make it to the top in the 2012 edition as well.
“I love winning at this golf course and I like to play here very much,” said the Thai star who won the tournament in 2008 and 2009.
