Trish Johnson’s first round performance in India
Trish Johnson was not at par with the other players on the first day on the DLF Golf and Country Club. The Englishwoman stepped on the fairway with high hopes, but a bad performance pushed her down the leaderboard.
The 46-year-old veteran, Johnson, made a par on the first hole. The next three holes were not very eventful either, as they were also pars.
Johnson carded a bogey on the 5th hole but managed to nullify the loss on the 6th hole where she made a birdie. The Englishwoman, who was on top of the order of merit in the year 1990, finished her 7th hole with another par.
Johnson finished the 8th hole with a bogey. She played the hole in 4 shots. There was no consistency in the game of the 46-year-old. She made countless errors, which cost her at the end of the day.
Johnson, who is currently 12thon the order of merit, has not won a single tournament throughout the year. A win in the Hero Women’s Indian Open for the Englishwoman will end her dry spell and will also end her year on a high note.
There is much to prove by the Englishwoman as she is always considered second best to the pioneer of English golf, Laura Davis.
With such a splendid career, the 46-year-old is looking to put another title in the bag. A win in India, the penultimate tournament of the year will boost Johnson’s confidence when she starts her European Tour next season.
The first day of the tournament has ended, but it is still open for anyone to take.
Johnson is a threat to any player on her good day, but the Englishwoman will have to rise up to the occasion when she comes back to the fairways in the next round.
Johnson has to use all her experience to counter the stiff challenge put up by the young players. The Indian contingent is filled with many talented players who can steal the limelight on any given day.
The 46-year-old should raise her game for round two of the Indian tournament or things will start getting out of hand.
The experience of the Englishwoman will be tested in the second round. So she has to come up with the goods to put herself in the position to win the Indian Open title.
