Tristan Lamasine, Filip Horansky make it to the third round of Boys’ Singles – French Open 2011
Another huge upset in the Boys’ Singles draw at Roland Garros, as the French wildcard, Tristan Lamasine, defeated the second seed, Hugo Dellien of Bolivia in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament. Lamasine needed one hour and forty seven minutes to take down his opponent in an exciting three-setter, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, advancing to the third round draws of the tournament.
Dellien was considered as one of the strongest contenders for winning the tournament but the French came up with a brilliant performance to beat all the odds. The second seed had a magnificent start to the contest and bagged the first set in the opening thirty four minutes to get hold of the contest. Lamasine made a tremendous comeback to clinch the next set and then carried on his winning momentum to seal victory in the third.
The Bolivian was had an impressive serve percentage of 71 in the contest but his five double faults on crucial occasions proved very taxing for him. Both contestants were equally good on bagging the first serve points in the game but six serve breaks from Lamasine proved to be the decisive factor in the contest.
Dellien drew the first blood in the contest by bagging the opener at 6-2 to get the upper hand in the game. The French competitor made a crucial breakthrough in the very next set and stung two serve breaks to reel off the second set at 6-2. With the contest evenly poised after two sets, the decider was expected to be a thriller and it actually turned out to be. Dellien hung in the third set with two break points but the French belted three serve breaks to outplay him, sealing victory at 6-4.
Lamasine will take on his fellow compatriot, Laurent Lokoli, in the third round of the tournament to get a quarter-final berth.
The third seed Filip Horansky of Slovakia also won his second round matchup against Julien Cagnina of Belgium in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(5). Horansky required 77 minutes to wrap up victory, belting four serve breaks and 76 per cent first serve points to make it to the third round of the tournament. He faced limited resistance from the Belgian opponent and cruised through the sets very quickly to register victory.
Horansky will square off against the 14th seed, Dominic Thiem of Austria in the third round for a place in the final eight. Theim took down Mitchell Krueger of the United States in straight sets in the second round of the tournament.
