Trixi Worrack won the final sprint over Judith Arndt to claim the stage 2 win at the Ladies Tour of Qatar 2012
Trixi Worrack shined during the second day of the Ladies Tour of Qatar. She claimed the victory after her remarkable performance at the 114.5 kilometre stage of the race.
The German cyclist was tested during the last kilometres by her compatriot Judith Arndt but Worrack was quick enough to seal the deal for her team and finished the race in 3 hours, 5 minutes and 37 seconds.
Trixi had a terrific start to the race after her 5th place finish during the first stage.
Kirsten Wild of Netherlands won the opening stage with Chloe Hosking, Elen Van Dijk and Judith Arndt achieving the next three spots.
Judith Arndt of Team GreenEdge-AIS claimed the second position on day 2. Whereas, Adriana Visser of Team Skil-1t4i finished 2 minutes and 20 seconds behind the race leader for the third spot.
Arndt was happy with her second position, as it also earned her the overall lead after the second stage.
She mentioned that her team, GreenEdge-AIS, rode way better during the second stage of the race.
She was quoted as saying, “Today was definitely better than yesterday. The final didn’t go our way yesterday. Today we put a lot of work into the race. It took a lot in the end to get rid of Kirsten Wild. She’s very dangerous because she’s the top sprinter
here. In the end, it worked out”.
Dave McPartland, the Sport Director for Team GreenEdge-AIS, explained that the chase to Madinat Al Shamal witnessed many ups and downs.
He briefed, “There were different groups up the road throughout the race. We had Judith in the front for both intermediate sprints, and Loes Gunnewijk was up there for awhile, too. When Gunnewijk came back, Judith went up the road with the final move”.
Kirsten Wild won the opening sprint of the race while Judith Arndt and Trixi Worrack won the second and the third sprints of the second stage.
Valentina Scandolara, Cherise Taylor and Katie Colclough were the top three young riders during the day 2.
Stage winner, Trixi, is now just 2 seconds behind the overall race leader and, with one more stage to go, the contest between the two Germans will be worth watching.
Kirsten Wild, Elen Van Dijk and Chloe Hosking are at the third, fourth and fifth spots after the stage 2 classifications.
