  1. during the trojan war, greeks hid soldiers in the wooden horse and gave it to trojan saying that Hera has abandoned the greeks and stuff...

so they tricked the trojans in order to go inside the walls of the troy because the wall was impossible to break into...

if you read the Aeneid, trojans claim that greeks cheated because they lied about gods and stuff...

so bottom line is, to trick or disguise as something good in order to mess u up

  2. That would be the origin of the saying , " Beware of Greeks bearing gifts".

  3. It refers to how, in Virgil's epic poem "The Aeneid, the Trojans managed to sneak into the heavily fortified city of Troy, a city with which they were engaged in a long and tiresome war. They did this by building a large, beautiful wooden horse which they left outside the city walls as an anonymous gift. While the people of Troy were cautious, they could not simply let such a wonderful gift remain outside their city. So they brought it into the center of their town and rejoiced and celebrated. When the revelry was done and the city fell asleep, the Trojans stealthily crawled out of belly the horse in which they had been hiding. They proceeded to slaughter the startled men of Troy and enslave their women and children.

So, a "Trojan Horse" is something which appears to be innocent and/or innocuous but when the intended target accepts it, its true purpose--usually destructive--is revealed and it takes its recipient by surprise.

  4. It refers to a trick pulled by the Greeks on the Trojans during the siege of Troy as detailed in "The Aeneid."

the Greeks built a giant wood (or perhaps wicker) horse and rolled it up to the gates of Troy, ostensibly as a peace offering. The Trojans wheeled this monstrous huge thing into the city, had a party, and went to bed. That night, the Greek assassins who were hiding in the bloody thing all along swarmed out into the streets and had their merry way.
