Question:

Trojan Virus got onto my computer from my USB, and won't let me show hidden files/folders? How do I delete it?

The school network somehow got a virus on it, I was doing schoolwork and saved it to my usb, then put the usb flash drive into my home computer without knowing and it got a virus on it.

There is some autorun.inf file linked to it that constantly reappears, and I can't set it to Show Hidden Files to delete it, because as soon as I do, when I close the window again after clicking apply then ok, the virus reverts it back to Do Not Show Hidden Files. Apparently it's a Trojan sort of virus, too. I've tried a lot of anti-virus software, and some of them can detect it and 'delete' it, but it just reappears.

How do I get rid of this virus? It just keeps coming back. Are there any ways to get rid of it without formatting, preferrably?

  1. Try running a virus scanner like OneCare or Norton, although deleting it isnt really a solution to the problem as it may have spread to other parts of your computer and already integrated into your system as a regular task

How do you know its a trojan or something? Autorun.inf is the file that decides which file runs on insert and the icon of the device.

Your best bet is to try a virus scanner/remover (you can get free trials) or copy the work you want to your computer and format the drive.

    Good luck.

  2. Use another PC to download Clamwin anti-virus and install Clamwin portable on a USB thumb drive.

    http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/c...

    Update the anti-virus definition files.

Set the preference to delete virus or move virus to a quarantine folder

Boot up in safe mode on infected PC

Disable system restore on your infected PC if possible

Use the USB drive with Clamwin Anti-virus installed to scan your infected PC.

First scan your PC memory for virus.

Later scan all your hard drives for viruses.

  3. Try running McAfee Stinger, and if that doesn't alleviate the problem I'd suggest downloading AVG (Free Edition). In the meanwhile, depending upon the infection, keep your computer disconnected from the internet to avoid spreading it to other people.

  4. you need to have an anti virus protection on the computer in order for it to recover properly. Here is a link for Avast 4.8 Download it. It is free and lasts a year. I have had NO problems since I downloaded this software.

Don't use McAfee.. Nothing but problems with this software.

  5. OK you can just go to system restore and restore to the last couple of installed programs in that month
