Question:

Trolling motor plug fell into water, will it be okay?

My husband had his trolling motor charger plugged into an extension cord on our dock. I forgot about this, and accidently backed out the boat. The plug fell into the water but came apart. I pulled out each plug and set them out to dry. Do you think the water immersion damaged the trolling motor charger? Or do you think it damaged the extension cord? Or do you think they will both dry out and be okay?

  1. Let them thoroughly dry, then try them out.  There is a chance that the charger was shorted, doubtful that the extension cord was damaged at all.

In either case, letting the components dry out and testing them has virtually no risk.  They either work or they don't.

  2. it more than likely will have damaged the charger not the cord, all you can do is let it dry out and see,i dropped a sears drill in the water and when it all dried out it still worked,so who knows,it may be ok,let it dry and see, thats the only way to know,i wouldnt have thought that a portable drill would have survived being under for a while but it did, good luck with this one,

  3. They should dry OK, but it,s a good idea to spray them with WD-40..    It's made for just such problems.
