I have seen this term used more and more lately and I am not sure how it is truly intended. I only know of the trolls from fairy tales. I sense that there are additional meanings nowadays. For example: "Christian trolls" or "all the trolls will be replying"...So..what's up w/ this?

  1. I don't know about those...but when my kids act up I say "Watch it Troll" in a really scary voice...but as they back off .they laugh at me. Yep.

  2. Originally Trolls where established members of a forum who would post ridiculous questions that only the newbies to the forum would rush to answer. This was a good way of showing who was a regular and who was new. Such questions where normally things like - 'Hey did you know that glass is actually a liquid' or some such. They called it 'trolling for newbies'.

Later trolling simply became any disruptive or baiting question.

    More Peace

  4. trolls are people who post insults and the like, in the hopes that the OP will get mad and say something they consider funny, or to just be annoying

  5. While we're all aware of the numerous types of trolls from myth/fantasy, the word troll has taken on a whole new meaning.

To be as simple as possible, a troll is someone who attacks others for no real purpose other than their enjoyment. They often rattle on and on about being right. They do anything and everything they can to avoid admitting they are wrong. They'll enter a chat/forum and just begin trouble for no reason. Internet trolls are people who fish for other people's confidence and, once found, exploit it. Someone who posts controversial and irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

So to be blunt, a******s who just like to mess with other people.
