I've been playing the trombone for 5 years and I'm just going into high school. Its a lot different we have to march and do formations on the field while playing and a bunch of other stuff, but right now we are in camp learning how to do all the stuff. I've been having a LOT of trouble with playing and marching at the same time it confuses the heck out of me [[I'm not coordinated at all!]] i l.cant even barley march! So if you have any tips on marching and playing that would be appreciated =]

thanks

  1. a good tip is to practice marching and playing separately but after a while  when u get better u should march hold up ur trombone in playing position

  2. Take your music and mark the counts where the sets correspond. Name the formations and over the measure put the name over it. Practice long tones for tone and do them while marching forward eight counts and backwards eight counts. That should get you started. Just remember everyone is different, at some point the music and sets will click together for you. Memorize your music and remember your sets and then take your time. It will happen.

  3. It takes a lot of coordination, which takes a lot of practice.  Practice them separately until you can do both without thinking too much about it.  And memorize your music so you don't have to read the sheet music.
