On Wednesday night, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 won the Trophée des Champions against Ligue 1 champions LOSC Lille at Tangier with a 5-4 win.
Didier Deschamps’ side chased LOSC Lille almost throughout the match.
Leading 3-1 with five minutes left, Les Dogues were bound for their first Trophée des Champions but Les Phoceens did the unthinkable thanks to a hat-trick from Ghanaian international Andre Ayew.
Ten days before the start of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign, the Trophée des Champions was a great opportunity for Lille and Marseille to test themselves and their new signings. The game was a great chance for both coaches to witness first-hand their new
recruits.
For LOSC, Marko Basa, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morgan-Amalfitano-c26799 were playing their first competitive games for their respective clubs.
A crazy scenario that ended with five goals in the final minutes made an unlikely outcome of the game at Tangier.
Lille’s dominance for about 80 minutes
Olympique de Marseille took control of the possession of the ball within seconds of the start of the game. First, Morgan Amalfitano hit the post and then Lille goalkeeper Landreau had to save a deflected shot from Lucho Gonzalez. The French shot-stopper
was Lille’s saviour once again when he saved a header from M’Bia in the fifth minute.
However, it was Lille who opened the scoring through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eden-Hazard-c11863
capitalised on an error by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Souleymane-Diawara-c33850 and efficiently slotted the ball in the goal through Steve Mandanda’s legs.
Marseille cut short Lille’s lead thanks to a goal from Andre Ayew in the 71st minute but last season’s leading goalscorer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ludovic-Obraniak-c22623 in the 72nd
minute.
Breathtaking ending
Things started changing drastically when summer signing from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international Loic Remy levelled the score. However, that was not the end of the action.
The craziest moments of the game were yet to come. First, Chedjou gave a penalty away when he brought down Ayew. The Ghanaian coolly dispatched the ball in the net through the spot-kick to give Marseille a 4-3 lead.
However, in the second minute of injury time, Marko Basa equalised for Lille. Finally, Benoit Pedretti was accused of ‘man-handling’ http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Ayew-c19098 when replays clearly showed that there wasn’t much contact. Nonetheless, the referee pointed to the spot. In
stepped Andre Ayew who once again coolly slotted the ball in the net to ground of an amazing hat-trick and an amazing win for the Rhone giants.
Man of the match: Andre Ayew (Olympique de Marseille)
The Ghanaian striker was a nuisance for Lille’s defenders all night long. His off-the-ball-movement proved to be an important asset for Marseille and his hat-trick was well deserved even though luck had a big part to play in the last penalty.
With the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 season about to begin, the Trophee des Champions turned out to be a great chance for Didier Deschamps and Rudi Garcia to take a look at their respective squads.
Though the game was not played at a high tempo, the players would now be pretty much well-prepared for the start of the new season after playing in a gruelling encounter where goals were order of the day.
