My dad hasn't gotten any plywood and isn't planning too at all! We live in central florida. Is it really important to put up plywood in this storm since it is expected to turn into a hurricane? This is our first ever hurricane season so my dad doesn't know what he's doing, cuz he's an idiot. I've tried to get him to go and buy the plywood but it's probably sold out by now. Should I really be freaking out or just not care like my dad?

  1. preparation for any storm is a wise thing to do, better safe than sorry

  2. go! hurry fast and get it. you don't want to take any chances so take your dad to thye store to buy plywood!

  3. I live in Miami. And by Miami I mean like the furthest down South you can get. I was in Wilma and Katherina and I must say, it probably won't be that bad. During Wilma (which was Category 3) we had no plywood up and everything was fine. Not to mention you probably won't be getting as hit as hard. Once it passes through South Florida it will weaken.

The worst that will probably happen for you is that it will flood.

Good part about this hurricane is that school's canceled tomorrow ;)

    Good luck and be safe!

  4. No, you are more than likely safe. I live in Gainesville FL. Fay is still only a Tropical storm and she is over Cuba. Chances are that she won't turn into a powerful hurricane. Maybe a Category 1 or 2 at the most. Which may cause wind damage and flooding but it won't be at all bad enough to board up windows. You are over reacting. I have live here in Central Florida all my life and these things tend to be pretty mild. If it were something to worry about you would know there would be warnings all over the place. Remember this, if a hurricane is ever expected to cause the damage that you are worried about you will generally get an officer of some kind coming to your door to tell you to either evacuate or board up. Also, they are not sold out of plywood because anyone who has lived in Florida and been through these such things know when they should really board up, this is not one of those cases. I'll bet that if y go to Home Depot they will tell you that they have plenty. Your Dad is not an idiot he sounds pretty sensible to me. You should trust him, he's older than you and much wiser. Chill out, it's not gonna be that bad!

  5. If you live inland and in a well built house (not wood) you probably have little to worry about.  Now to have food and water for several days will be important.  I lived through hurricanes and we never put up wood or shutters since we lived inland.

  6. I was born in St.Thomas(USVI) raised in Central Florida and I been in hundred of hurricanes (literally). And i never put up plywood or anything i just stay in the house and relaxed. Only if you feel like putting it up you can go get it.

Also it not going to be a hurricane cause Cuba is slowing it down.
