Tropical Storm Rina might pose considerable problems for trainer David Fawkes

Conditioner David Fawkes has changed the final work out plans for the Florida based 2010 champion of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint Big Drama, because of the possible effects of the Tropical storm Rina on South Florida this weekend.
The Eclipse Award winning 5-year-old horse was initially planned to be sent at Calder race course for his final workouts before the race before shipping him to Churchill Downs on 31 October, but the change of travel plans, and as a result it will be not
possible.
The same route was observed the last time around, which propelled the son of Montbrook, out of Riveting Drama by Notebook, to victory in the 2010 Sprint by one and a half lengths over Hamazing Destiny.
David Fawkes has another Breeders’ Cup Sprint candidate in the form of Apriority, and he will be sending the duo to Churchill Downs, but the storm could prove to be a major hindrance for these two sprinters.
If the storm were to strengthen and hit Miami, David Fawkes’ Apriority and Big Drama could have a problem. They will not only be deprived of training but also shipping them to Churchill Downs could pose to be a major challenge.
“I just can’t take a chance we won’t be able to work or, worse, not be able to ship if the storm does hit us here at Calder,” said Fawkes.
On 22 October, Apriority and Big Drama worked in tandem, but this time around considering the situation, the possibility of training the two together is bleak and the whole scenario has left trainer David Fawkes undecided whether train them together or not.
Talking about Big Drama’s form, the experienced sprinter is yet to lose a race since his Breeders’ Cup Sprint win.
Though he has participated in just two races this season, he has gone on to bag both of them. Starting his season with a win in the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector at Gulfstream Park on 15 January, 2011, over at six furlongs.
Picked up where he left it form, and 8 months later he landed the Whippleton Handicap which showed his conditioners that Big Drama is ready for another massively pursed sprint a year later.
