  1. Get a new one and replace it.

  2. Run the 2 together for a while.  That way you can cycle the new filter (fill it with bacteria).  When this is cycled, remove the faulty one and take out the sponges.  Wash these sponges in your existing tank as they are filled with bacteria too! The new filter will clear the water in no time.  Then hopefully the new filter is packed with bacteria.  Good luck

  3. ...ohhh, integrated technology....yes

    ...the first thing?

get a filter that works.....and can cycle either using the current media or some infusion from thereof (no pun intended, 'current' ,lol)

...find some 'run-of-the-mill', off the shelf, variety filter that willl cycle your tank volume three times an hour, for the next 12 decades, ok?

...the second thing is to pick up a package of $.99 therms at Wal-Mart where you get the stand-by filter...go home and try to save the friggin nitrifying bacteria colony

the third thing is to examine the 'integrated' filter for possible salvage factors...like an impellor that can be replaced, or the shaft and impellor, etc, etc...possibly the working parts of the 'integrated' filter can be replaced for a fraction of the completly new filter

    ...hope this helps....i'm always happy!!!!!!

  4. replace it. but it can cause problems, since the best filter is the mature filters {old} and a little dirty. replacing, cleaning of the filter could cause problems. {remove uneaten fish food from tank} if you are an experienced fish/tank owner. theres no prob with replacing the old filter pump. :)
