Tropical storm Fay, plywood?

My dad hasn't gotten any plywood and isn't planning too at all! We live in central florida. Is it really important to put up plywood in this storm since it is expected to turn into a hurricane? This is our first ever hurricane season so my dad doesn't know what he's doing, cuz he's an idiot. I've tried to get him to go and buy the plywood but it's probably sold out by now. Should I really be freaking out or just not care like my dad?

  1. My first question... Has you dad been through a Hurricane before? If you moved into Florida in the past 2 years your dad has NO idea what you could in for. Good example, Andrew.

Now with that said... If you've been through it before, your dad knows the house and when it's time to board up. We live in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) and we're not boarding up for this one. We are stocked with supplies and our car has a full tank of gas.

If you're really concerned, ask him to get 3 days worth of food and water just in case the power goes out. Also make sure your propain tank is full or you have enough charcoal to cook with.

  2. I don't think it would be necessary to put plywood since it might hit us as a category 1 or a tropical storm, it wont make as much damage.

  3. It's okay to worry, but don't freak out. Florida has had much worse hurricanes than Fay. I don't think boarding up is necessary for this one, but be sure to get plenty of water, canned food, flashlights, batteries... all the necessities. No one can predict exactly how bad it's going to be, so better to be safe than sorry. Since it's your first hurricane season in Florida, your dad should be worried too. It can get pretty bad down here. If your really worried, let your dad know that you don't feel very safe without the house boarded up.
