  1. Try buying sandbags?

  2. If you have family that lives in a safe spot, and they are not too far away, then go there. If not, then definitely board up your place. You are going to be bombarded by high winds and heavy rainfall. Make sure you stock up on food and water for you and your cats.

Best of luck to you and stay safe.

  3. if you are in an area thet is floor prone get out, take your pets and go stay with someone in a safe place

  4. It will only be a category 1 when it hits, you might not even lose power.  Just make sure you have a radio that works if the power goes out.  Make sure you have candles and flashlights that work.  Make sure you have food that you can prepare if the power goes out and that you have enough water (bottle or jug).  If you are in a flood prone area, then I would leave.  If you are scared, maybe you should spend this time with your friends or family or invite them over.

  5. As you know, Dolly is a Cat. 1 hurricane. The good news is that it's nnot very well organized. So the worst of it won't hit until about after midnight. But you are running out of time.

If you can board up your apartment, then do so. But your time might be better spent securing things around your home. If you have cages for your cats, I would definitely cage them. They don't need to be running around during the storm.

Start filling as many containers with water as you can. If you have a gallon of milk that's almost done, dump the milk out, rinse the jug thoroughly and fill it up with water. If you feel you have time, go out and buy water, if there's any left, and some snacks that you can eat that don't require cooking.

If you are afraid of flooding, use the time you have to get valuables up as high as possible. Take dishes out of cabinets and store valuables up high. You can even store items in the dishwasher or in your stove. (Just don't turn them on...)

Do NOT burn candles for any reason. Instead use flashlights and glowsticks. Make sure you have a FM radio with fresh batteries.

Go out and fill your car gas tank to FULL. And withdraw some cash from an ATM, at least $100. Most places will re-open after a storm, but if the electricity is out they will only take cash.

I would also prepare a storm room, usually a bathroom that has no windows. If there is an emergency, hide in the bathtub and pull a mattress over you.

Hurricanes are scary, but this one is not very big. Stay calm. It will be over in a day.

Hope this helps. My source has a Links section that is open to the public.
