Tropicana Field gets an American-made astro-turf upgrade
There is development taking place in Tropicana Field and this marks one of the latest projects to come to the Tampa Bay Rays, following an eventful winter break. There is a move to reform the technology plugged into the venue and the job will be complete
by the first day of the regular league season.
"The AstroTurf fiber and in-fill systems contain the very latest technology and will provide our players the best playing surface available", team president, Matt Silverman said. "Our players had the opportunity to work out on the new turf, and their opinions
contributed to our decision to install AstroTurf".
The club has been playing on an artificial surface since 1998 and the new installation means the Rays will be making the required adjustment specified by Major League Baseball.
Furthermore, the Toronto Blue Jays already are playing on the AstroTurf. The material in the artificial grass will make the turf play out well and efficiently. The grass will be more durable and safe to play on.
"We are proud to be working with the Rays' organization", said AstroTurf President, Bryan Peeples. "Our hope is that this field will be a source of pride for players and fans and that the team excels at playing on such an incredible field".
The club has been looking like a real force to be reckoned with. There are upcoming prospects making their way to the 25 man roster. With the incoming talent, there have been two new additions made to the club.
Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon have made their way to the club following an average season in the Central division of the American League.
The Rays will be without the likes of Carl Crawford, Shaun Marcum, Jason Bartlett, and Carlos Pena. They moved out of the club this winter season and there are more young players coming in than acquisitions being made from the free agency.
The Rays will be hoping for a way to claim the American League East title this year. They face a tough contest; however, as the Boston Red Sox are coming up in the closing days with new players and returning stars from the disabled list. The club was able
to break through the playoffs last year but they lost to a feisty Texas Rangers’ club.
The club will be looking for a way to get back to their winning ways as the race to the World Series kicks off again.
