Trott relishing his every moment with the English team
Jonathan Trott, last year, made his debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the Ashes decider at the Oval and within a year has established himself as the most reliable and dependable batsman in England’s cricket team. He is currently enjoying his cricket as he is performing for his national team on a consistency basis.
Trott was instrumental in deciding the fate of last year’s Ashes final where he made 41 and 119 on his debut enabling the English to win the series on their home soil. Similarly, he proved his mettle once again when he steered England against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s pace-attack at Edgbaston last week. His timely half-centuries in both innings enabled England to win the second consecutive test against the young Pakistani side. Now England and the English fans are expecting similar performance from Trott, as hosts prepare to face Pakistan at the Oval on 18th August.
Trott, despite facing many ups and downs now thinks his position in the English team is secured and as a result he is enjoying his every moment of the cricket. Talking to reporters on the eve of Oval Test, Trott said, “The last time I sat here it was a lot fuller. It's been a year full of memories, starting here. In that time I've been working really hard on my game to improve as a player and contribute to winning matches for England. I think I'm a better player now. It may be a cliché, but I feel I've learned a lot from my experiences.”
Trott has been phenomenal with the bat in Tests. Batting at no. 3, he has played a major role in consolidating his team’s batting. His statistics are self-explanatory. In 11 Tests, he has scored 923 runs at an average of 51.27 while contributing to eight victories that include six in a row since England’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Johannesburg. Trott’s emergence basically reflects the success of English side in international arena. However, he credits his and team’s success to the joint efforts of Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss. He said, “Coming into a team is like getting a new job. You have to find your role in the team as well as in the dressing room, and all of the background stuff is just as important as what you see on the pitch. But Flower and Strauss have a big emphasis on pulling the new players in and putting an arm around them.”
On the other hand, Trott has failed to replicate his Test successes in the shortest form of cricket that is the T20s. His unsuccessful stint at the inaugural T20 Championship is a perfect example in this regard. Trott was first selected after Andrew Flint off’s fitness was termed doubtful for fourth Ashes’ Test at Headingly. However, he was not selected in the final 11 but missing the Headingly Test turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him as England was routed by the Aussies within three days. However, Trott was finally given a chance in the final Test where he proved his worth to England’s selectors. Commenting on it, Trott said, “I was fresh and excited, and champing at the bit to succeed and do well for the team. The other guys had been on an emotional rollercoaster and were tired after the fifth game, I had come in quite fresh and raring to go, so in hindsight that helped.” He attributes his performance at Oval to his footwork which he used convincingly against both fast bowler and spinners alike. Same type of footwork and control he exhibited at Edgbaston when he faced the Pakistani pace-attack at an unpredictable wicket. Jonathan Trott will be hoping to produce another solid performance when Pakistan and England meet at Oval.
