Trouble fundraising mission trip money and unable to reach my goal.?

I have been selected to participate on a 6-month missions trip on behalf of my church and missions organization to the Philippines for this July. Problem is, I am unable to raise enough money for my trip. I am looking at $5,000 for this trip. I have raised only 1,000 dollars. I am thinking about returning the money that my family and friends and coworkers and my students have donated/given to me. Anybody have this kind of problem and experience before? What did you do to handle this kind of situation?

With everyone struggling to meet their bills this is not an easy time to be fundraising.  Good luck but 4k in 3 weeks is not feasible.

I've never had trouble raising funds.  You just need to make what you are doing public.  Put up flyers, have a car wash, have a yard sale or bake sale.  Also, put something in your church bulliten about it.  If the members of your church know what you are doing they will probably help out.  If that doesn't work then go by and talk to the managers of some local business and see if you can get funds that way.
