Trouble sleeping for past few weeks? :(?

I have had trouble sleeping for the past several weeks. I've been watching my caffeine intake (only have one cup of coffee in AM and nothing with caffeine in PM) and making sure that I get some exercise and fresh air every day, but...I can't sleep. I just laid in bed for two hours tossing and turning. No music. No background noise. I ran six miles today. I went to work. I'm tired, so why can't I sleep?

This has been happening for almost a month now. IIt got to the point where I was really sick about a week and a half ago (from not sleeping for three days straight---I nearly had a nervous breakdown) and so I bought some sleep aid and slept for about 18 hours. I've used that a few times since, but I really don't want to rely on it long-term. I want to fix myself! I've never had trouble like this, and I'm frustrated! I'm exhausted...I feel like I want to cry....I just can't sleep.

I don't have a physician right now --- I'm in college and sort of between doctors so I'd rather not go to a doctor if I don't have to.

What's the matter with me?? Anyone? Anyone at all...

  1. insomnia? I don't know if your a female or male but you could double check that your not pregnant. Insomnia sucks really bad, best friend had it for long time. you said that there was no back ground music or noise, try putting on a movie and seeing if you can fall asleep to that. maybe even go to someones house. I can always sleep good at my parents house but you're in college so i don't know if you have that option. i would try noise, different house, different sleeping hours, different sleeping position and look at whats going on in your life. are you stressed? maybe get a massage from a friend or a pro. or place hot rags on your back, face or genital area. its more comforting than it sounds. sorry if none of this helps but i'd like to help any way that i can so I'm throwing every idea out there. maybe even take in a whole bunch of caffeine and sugar one day and then crash out afterward. Sorry your having a bad time :(

  2. The only thing that I can add to what you have already tried is what

an health psychologist, responding to the same question, told me. He said that when I am having trouble sleeping, I should get out of bed, read or do something boring until I get tired, then go back to bed.  He said not to read in bed because your body needs to learn that bed is for sleeping!

       Hope this helps!

  3. I had the same problem, I think it could be stress. I take a bit of Nyquil and I fall right to sleep, hope that helps.
