Hello all! I recently bought a used Canon XL1 miniDV camercorder. When I record and playback, the film is extremely glitchy. I read the manual and read that I needed to buy a headcleaner cassette, I did and still no difference. I was wondering if any of you know what else I can try. Thanks!

  1. Hi there. Is it an XL1 or a XL1s and if so is it still in warranty? These cameras had clutch problems from new and my own ones went to Canon for the new clutches within six months from new. If the clutch is faulty it will cause mayhem and the worst symptom is it eating tapes. Canon are very aware of this problem I can tell you.

I would suggest getting into an agent or someone who knows these cameras to fix it as you obviously have a problem there. It's not normally very expensive to do...compared to the camera.

Sorry to pour some gloom on the situation but it looks like to me. However I would still say have another go with the cleaning tape including using it on record as well as playback.

    Best of luck.

  2. change the cassette, fast forward and rewind before recording. If still the same results, you may have to contact theservice shop. Seems that the recording heads are overused.
