Question:

Trouble with colleges?

I recently emailed a school i was considering applying for, and they told me that home schooled students need a approval from your city's school commitee or superitendent. I live in Massachusetts, and plan on goin to college here as well. I am currently in the Penn Foster High School home school program. Just need feedback from people who maybe had this problem, and if the city was easy with giving that approval or if they gave you a hard time.

  1. It is not illegal to homeschool in any state and they are not to descriminate against anyone. That is exactly what they are doing. I suggest you sign up with the homeschool legal defense. www.hslda.com

They can help you out and make sure they scare the heck out of them and make them take you. They have no rights to not accept you because you homeschool.

  2. Well, I think they probably mean that you need approval if you want to take classes at the college AT THE SAME TIME as you are being homeschooled (dual enrollment).  If so then I would contact the superintendent, people probably do it all the time.

If you are trying to enroll in the college after graduating from homeschool, then make sure they know you are a homeschool GRADUATE and not currently a homeschool student.

  3. Every state is different.  Check the www.hslda.org website.  They have the laws and how you can go about getting your requirements approved for your state.
