Thanks again people! For those who missed my part 1 - 3. I set it already to Obtain IP address automatically. I have a reliable firewall (norton), i have done rebooting the modem, and the PC. I do not have a router, i have only one PC at home. I always receive this message ("Ip conflict, Ip address already been used by another system in the network" ). It started 2 days ago.i know my IP address.. 192.168.0.1..(which arises lots of doubts). I am paying for an account to my ISp for one user only. I use ipconfig, ipconfig /renew, ipconfig /release. Nothing happened.it is still the same. I use network troubleshooter, still my IP is used by another system. I cannot contact my ISp since yesterday...Thanks a lot for your ideas People!!!

  1. If you are using the Apple computer, I am sorry that I can't help you with that.

But if you are using Windows, or Microsoft-based computer, you may use System Restore to restore your computer setting and everything back to the time when the problem did not occur yet. For information about System Restore, visit:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

Remember to start your computer in safe mode. To start in safe mode, hold F8 while the computer is starting until the screen appears some options. Choose Safe mode only (without networking or command prompt)

  2. Okay. I read up on the whole thing here...

Here's the deal. you DO have a modem somewhere. It is simply an absolute necessity for DSL, and you need to reboot that bad boy because it has it's data confused.

So. No router, fine. plugged in to the wall, no problem, but somewhere there is a small box connected to a phone line and then from there to the wall.

All of the flushing and releasing and renewing youi have done as per the well intentioned advice of other answerers, only worked on your local machine. You need to flush the Modem. The easiest way to do this is to pull the plug and wait, then plug it back in.. BUT since you don;t seem to know where it is, let's try a few things.

Go to start > run > type "cmd" and get a shell open.

    now:

    ping www.google.com

    (this is going to fail)

    ping 192.168.0.1

    (should work, and send pong)

a clue will be how long the pong signals take. if they are measured in milliseconds 0.1 NOT your local machine. if it is measured in fractions of a millisecond 0.1 IS your local machine.

Next try pinging 192.168.0.254 whi9ch will be the gateway if 0.1 is not.

if you get a response from 0.254, try opening up a web browser and see if you can view a web page on it. If you don;t get a response from 254 try browsing 0.1.

Somehwre along the chain here we need to find your modem either physically or virtually and reboot it.

My suggestion would be to look in the basement with the lights out for something with a lot of blinky lights and at least 3 cables plugged in to it, but failing that you need to hit the web interface and give it a kick from there. try 0.1 and 0.254.

Im not sure if anybody told you to try using a static IP

You do that in the same screen that you used to make sure you were in DHCP mode.

try assigning yourself 192.168.0.82 as an IP

    255.255.255.0 as subnet mask

192.168.0.1 (or maybe 254) as gateway

and set the DNS server number 1 the same as the gateway setting. You can skip DNS2

    That may help.

If you end up needing part five, post your ping results from 0.1 and 0.254... it may help.

  3. the IP you're getting is diffenetaly a router ip , most probably either a dlink or netgear.

    Start|Control Panel| Administrative Tools|Event Viewer

and look for a DHCP error entry.

sorry can't think of anything else.

  4. 192.168.0.1 isnt your ip thats your router\modem ip or ip it gives your pc ,go here it will tell you your ip

    http://whatsmyip.org/

you really should try system restore it cant hurt it will either fix it or wont

  5. you should try reseting your modem cause if you look at it and the part that says intrnet is red you need to reset it and also try going tothe bottum right corner next to the sound and you see 2 little computers and then there you have it!

  6. It sounds like the configuration settings for connecting have been messed up in some way. You will need to contact your ISP,by telephone, and explain the problem. Get them to talk you through re-setting the configuration.
