Trouble with my figure skates! Help!?

Ok so the back part of my right blade keeps coming loose! It really messes me up! I mean I tighten it every day before I skate, but then after I've been skating for about 30 or 45 minutes it comes loose again! Like I'll be landing perfect loops and then all of the sudden I can't even take off! Let alone land them! I don't know if I need stronger boots(my coach said I would soon) or if it's only a blade problem(that someone in the pro shop could fix.) What should I do???? Oh and right now my coach is out of town,so I can't ask him until tuesday. Help please!

thanks!

  1. Go to the pro shop and they should be able to fix the problem.  You probably need new screws.

  2. It sounds like the hole for the s***w has become stripped. Tightening the s***w every time really doesn't fix the problem. A reputable pro shop should be able to remove your blade, fill in the holes and remount your blade. I would recommend having them sno-sealed again if it has been over a year since that was last done. Don't put this off too long or you are liable to loose a s***w.

If your laces are also loosening and your ankle moves a bit when you land it is definitely time to upgrade skate models. It would be helpful to know what model boot and blade you have. The different skates are made to handle different levels of skating and people out-level their skates all the time. I don't know much about other brands but if you are consistently landing loop jumps then you might want to consider Riedell's Star line.

Wait until your coach comes back before buying a new pair of skates as he may have a specific model in mind that would be best for your skating style. In the meantime, the Pro Shop should be able to remount your blade in a few hours and get you a bit more life out of your skates.

    Hope this helps.

  3. this happened to my skates! i went to the pro shop and they said that i only had the temporary screws in! go to them and ask them to tighten the screws or give u new screws! it is such a pain. good luck : ]

  4. I think it's a problem with the blade.

The screws are not being tightened enough, thus causing the shifting.

I would say either put more screws in or have someone ( like a guy in the pro shop) tighten the screws.

It is not a problem with the boots. Unless the s***w holes are jacked up.

  5. What kind of boots/blades do you have?  If you have compressed leather soles (the bottoms on figure skate boots are made of compressed leather, not wood as many people think!) that your blades are mounted on, it is possible that the screws/holes are stripped or there is some rotting going on in the leather, not giving the blade anything to attach to.  You can tighten the screws all day long, but there is nothing for the screws to secure to.  If that's the case, you can take them to a pro shop and have the "old holes" filled and have your blades re-mounted.  If you have skates with plastic soles, I think I'd just scrap 'em and get new ones.

I'd take your skates to your trusted pro shop and see what they have to say.  I don't think it would be a blade problem, but if you need new boots soon anyway, maybe that's the way to go instead.

    Good luck!

  6. The holes are probably stripped. take it to the pro shop and they can plug the holes and then reset the screws

  7. I would say just take them to the pro shop and explain whats wrong and see what that say. You don't want to do anything on your own that might permanently ruin the skates.
