Question:

Trouble with my teacher?

I go by a different name then is the attendance sheet. So on the first day when the teacher called my name I politely corrected him but he won't call me by my preferred name. It's really getting on my nerves and it's only been a week. What do I do? I've tried to correct him every time he says my name but that's not working. I was thinking of just refusing to respond but I don't want to end up doing poorly in his class. What should I do?

  1. maybe you should ask the teacher to talk to you after class and ask him if he would mind if you are called something else.  explain that you NEVER go by that other name and it makes you uncomfortable.  even explaint hat you don't want to get off on the wrong foot and want to do well in his class.  i bet he'll change

  2. Most teachers usually ask if there is a preferred name that you choose to be called. Maybe speak to him after class and ask him to please call you by the preferred name. If he still continues to do this, go speak to the guidance counselor who may be able to influence him to respect your wishes.

  3. Is it really that big of a deal? I mean, I understand that you have a nickname that you prefer, but when it comes to your teachers, they don't have to call you by that name. Legally, you are the name on their sheet, and that's what you may be called. For all you know your teacher has a bad memory and it is easier for him to call you by the name on his sheet. It's only one class, and it's really not worth the argument or the possibility of getting yourself in trouble.

  4. DId you correct him only the one time?  He may have just forgotten. As a teacher, I know that it's hard to remember all my students' names early on.  I often have to refer to my class lists, so the names on there are the ones I learn. I'd suggest you stop by his classroom and talk to him before or after school.  Let him know that this is the name you would prefer him to use.  If he doesn't get it, try not to let it bother you.  My daughter had a teacher who always called her by a nickname that no one else ever used.   She was annoyed at the time, but now she laughs about it.

  5. and trust me he still going to call you by your first name

  6. pronounce his name differently

  7. its still your legal name,so he's gonna keep calling you that...if you hate your name so much just change it legally

  8. i had a similar problem last year... my physics teacher would call me Ashlee-Elizabeth even though every time she said it i told her it was just ASHLEE. She kept it up for the whole year :|

    BUT

My friend Erin had a teacher who flat out told her he didnt like the name Erin so he was going to call her by her middle name, Louisa. So it could be worse.

Try writing your prefered name on your exercise books and work and stuff, and maybe have a chat with him? :)
