Question:

Trouble with saying on ohms?

I'm looking for an Audiobahn AW1508T subwoofer, and it runs 2000w RMS. I know it's good, I've heard it before. The question I have is that under its specifications it says 1 or 4 ohm capability. But it's a dual 2 ohm subwoofer, so I don't get it! A single subwoofer I'll be running, trying to go to 2 or 1 ohm, but not sure what it'll pump. Thanks.

  1. Run the voice coils in series and it will be operating at 1 ohm. Connect speaker wires to each terminal on one voice coil, then run them over and hook them into the other voice coil and run a pair off of either side next to the wires you already hooked in to your source. If the amp is designed to run 1 ohm stable, it will sound good. On the other hand, you can run a pair of wires individually off of each voice coil to your source and be running at 4 ohms. Most amplifiers run at 4 ohm stable capacity, so you may want to try doing a parallel set up first to see how it runs. If you're satisfied, leave it be. If you're not, you can try to run them in series.

  2. If you only have one dual voice coil 2 ohm sub you can run it in parallel fo a 1 ohm load or seies for a 4 ohm load. Ypu should get an amp that is one ohm stable for more power. But i think sometimes when you run it at 4 ohms it may sound a little better.

  3. If you series the two coils, then you will get 4Ohms. That is 2 + 2. + from amp goes to + of coil, then the - from that coil goes to the + of the second coil, then the - of the second coil goes back to the amp.

If you parallel the coils you will get 1Ohm. 2 / 2. + from amp goes to + of both coils at same time, then - of amp goes to - of both coils at the same time.

It would be a 2Ohm load if you powered each coil independently, one coil powered by left channel, one coild powered by right channel.

  4. it is referring to the amount of ohms that the sub is running, that amp is only really great sounding for subs running either 1 ohm or 4 ohms.

    sorry for any inconvenience

  5. I have actual wiring diagrams on my site to end the confusion http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com
