I have a Sony Handy cam DCR-SR42 and iMovie on my computer. My camcorder doesn't use a firewire and I can't find my USB port. What should I do?

  1. Your Mac has a USB port - since you did not tell us which Mac you are using, it is difficult to tell you where to look. Follow the cable that connects the keyboard to the computer - chances are that the keyboard is connected to a port near a USB port.

That SR42 uses a highly compressed version of MPEG2 to store the video files on the hard drive of the camcorder - chances are good that you won't be able to do anything without converting the files.

You will need to download and install StreamClip

to convert the files before iMovie can do anything with them.

  2. You can't find the USB port on your mac or on your camcorder? Doesn't that camera take minidvd discs? You have to convert those files with a file converter program.
