Trout fishing?

I'm heading up to Hawley Lake this weekend for to fish. As i've researched, there's a lot of trout (Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Brown Trout and Cutthroat Trout). Can anyone suggest some good lures and/or bait to use up there? Or any other tips? thanks.

  1. experiment, have you ever herd of a swedish pimple. It`s a jigging spoon interesting cause its used for ice fishing. tip this with a minnow head jig over the side of whatever boat dock tube etc. just up and down will do. I always do this on a strange lake or river. never go home empty handed. This is my go-to across the country.

  2. Hello, my 3 best baits for trout are powerbait(green and orange rainbow with glitter) salmon eggs (we get the green lid pautskies or something like that) and good ol worms.  give yourself about 12-18" leader with 4 pound line. I like the split shot set up but its not too good if you want to get your bait way out there. Ive noticed that trout arent way in the deep. I guess it depends on the steepness of the lake but i usually catch em about 20 feet out. for lures use rapala. get the one that looks like a baby rainbow trout, and get a small one. about 1 1/2 inches. HAVE FUN!!!

  3. Lures:  silver or gold kastmasters  1/12 or 1/8 oz.

Mepps Black fury (black & yellow)

and Black & Orange    1/6 oz dressed

Bait:  Powerbait or Zekes Sierra gold

any kind of yellow or chartruse  and as a backup orange and pink.... it's weird one day one is king the next they won't touch it.   It's all about the color and the leader!!

hook  >>>  12-18" 2lb or 4lb leader >> size 14 barrel swivel >> 1/8 oz egg sinker or a bit larger egg sinker

you will have to experiment with the color of the bait and the leader length - it depends where the fish are holding at - water temperature... watch others around you or just keep testing it.   I watch other not only for the length of their leader but color of their bait!!

Hooks ... depending on local regulations.....

size 14 16 or 18 gold treble hook   remove the barbs if you aren't going to keep the fish    or use a size 14 baitholder >> Eagle Claw #181

    Good luck fishing

  4. night crawlers is always a good way to go. if you want to use a lure i would suggest a phoebe
