Troy Balvert occupies Men’s 800m freestyle gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Troy Balvert of North Shore Swimming occupied gold medal of the Men’s 800m freestyle on day two of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Tuesday, March 19.
The 20-year-old Balvert devastated hopes of his opponents in the distant freestyle discipline. With his commendable pace, he remained comfortably ahead of his opponents and hit the wall for gold medal.
Balvert experienced strong competition from his toughest challenger in the start but with his astonishing pace in the second half, he tapped the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 24.76 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jonathan Pullon of Howick Pakuranga, who stayed almost two seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 8 minutes and 26.69 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the race was obtained by Philip Ryan of Waterhole Swimming Club Inc, who was almost seven seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing wall for bronze medal with the timing of 8 minutes and 33.13 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Jasper Murphy of Napier Aquahawks, who stayed almost 12 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 45.05 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Alex Cox of Waterhole Swimming Club Inc, who was 0.97 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 46.02 seconds.
Similarly, Coz was traced by Devlin Forsythe of Karori Pirates Swimming Club, who ended his race in a time of 8 minutes and 46.04 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was obtained by Joe Hammond of Carterton Swimming Club Inc, who emerged on the finishing wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 51.68 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Jake O’Grady of Ashburton Swim Team, who stayed half a body length behind and posted an effort of 8 minutes and 52.22 seconds.
In addition, Balvert expressed happiness over his victory in the 800m event and received medals and accolades for his gruelling form after the event.
