Troy Bodie signed by Anaheim Ducks, shipped off to AHL affiliate Syracuse Crunch -NHL News Update
Troy Bodie had been confused throughout the offseason and preseason about whether he would be signed on by a National Hockey League (NHL) team or not. Not being in the best of situations, but still happy, the veteran left winger was signed on to Anaheim
Ducks to a one-year, two-way contract, on Wednesday, October 12.
The deal which was announced by the Anaheim club is reported to be worth $550,000 if he is recalled to play in the NHL or $105,000 for his services in the American Hockey League (AHL) with their minor league affiliate, Syracuse Crunch.
Even though he will be playing with Syracuse, the player is happy that he will be getting another chance to prove himself for a more permanent spot in the NHL later on.
“It’s unreal”, Bodie said after Wednesday’s skate. “I’ve been thinking about it forever, what’s the right decision? I said, ‘OK I’m going to make the decision (to go to Portland). Then, as I’m going there, here I go (to Syracuse)”.
Bodie was on his way to Winnipeg in order to be assigned on to their affiliate in Portland, but after scoring a single goal in four preseason matchups with Jets, they did not want him on the major league team.
“I’m ready to go and I’m in game shape”, Bodie said about playing with Syracuse Crunch for the next season. “This is a whole new team, though. You have to get to know everybody. It’s going to be tough to jump right in, but hopefully I can adapt”.
Troy Bodie was drafted as the 278th in round-nine of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by Edmonton Oilers. After failing to make the team after his selection, Bodie finally got a chance with Anaheim Ducks, which obviously came after he spent multiple seasons
in the AHL, Western Hockey League (WHL) and East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
In total, the 26-year-old from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada, has played a total of 107 major league matchups, 50 of them most recently in a full season with Carolina Hurricanes and boasts a record of 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists).
