Troy Kelly looks to bounce back in Reno-Tahoe Open
Just like numerous other golfers, Troy Kelly will also be looking to get back into rhythm at the Reno-Tahoe Open. He has not been in the form lately.
In the last six events, he missed the cut four times, including at the Open Championship. His only good finish this season was at the Greenbrier Classic, where he secured second position. However since then, his game has been deteriorating.
Troy Kelly is currently ranked 170th in the world and as a result, he missed the chance by a long way to play at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Reno-Tahoe is an alternate event and players get a chance to get back into shape. However, this tournament is pretty unique from the rest of the tournaments.
It is the Stableford scoring system that has made this event pretty interesting. The Stableford system is completely different from the conventional scoring system of the golf. The Stableford scoring system encourages players to be more aggressive, rather
than to be tactical.
The Stableford scoring system awards the points like this, 8 points for a double eagle, 5 for an eagle, 2 for a birdie, 0 for par, -1 for a bogey and -3 for a double bogey or worse.
Alongside Troy, there are some other big players taking the field, so the tournament will not be a passive one. Rather, the spectators and the fans will get to see some excellent golf over the four days.
If Troy can manage a top-15 finish here, then his total prize money for this season will cross the $800, 00 mark. This means that Troy will retain his PGA Tour card for the next season.
Back in 2009, Troy did not have a good run at Reno-Tahoe Open. He finished way below at T51. However this time around, he will be looking to come up with an improved performance. A good performance at the event will definitely boost his confidence.
The Irishman Padraig Harrington will probably be the favourite to win the event but in Stableford scoring, nothing is guaranteed until one actually has it the trophy in their hand.
