The former Los Angeles Lakers is considering going overseas because of lack of interest from the NBA teams
According to David Pick of Sportando, Troy Murphy who played 63 games with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, is reportedly drawing interest from an overseas team.
The former first round pick by the Golden State Warriors back in 2001 recorded an average of 3.2 points and 3.2 rebounds last season. However, he shot the ball 41% from long range. However, despite his ability to be a good shooter
from beyond the arc, the Lakers management have so far not shown any interest in bringing back Murphy for another season.
But the Lakers are not the only team that are reluctant to give Murphy a second chance. As the 32 year old veteran has not received any offers from other teams around the NBA.
It is this lack of interest that had led Murphy to consider an offer seas and he may have his best chance to adapt to the European style of basketball.
On the other hand, the Lakers have also not shown interest in Matt Barnes who has reportedly hinted towards returning back to LA as he remains keen to stay in Hollywood.
The Lakers showing lack of interest in offering veteran minimums to players can be understandable as they have a roster full of star players to keep in mind before they bring in any new additions.
They already had Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol present in their ranks and went ahead to bring in Dwight Howard and Steve Nash over the summer which limits their options as they are already well over the salary cap.
However, Murphy has proved to be capable shooter from long range and can also help out while cleaning up the glass. But the lack of interest should not come as much surprise as other major role players like Kenyon Martin, Tracy
McGrady, Leandro Barbosa, Derek Fisher and Michael Redd are still looking for new teams
Murphy still has 2 or maybe 3 years left in the tank but his NBA future does not look very bright and looks set to play out the closing years of his career with a team overseas.
