Troy Ross: I have matured since my last title shot – Boxing News
While many are of the view that 37-year-old fighter Troy Ross is at the verge of retirement, the Canadian believes he is in his best of forms and is ready to punish his opponent Yoan Pablo Hernandez, the current IBF cruiserweight champion, on September 15,
at the Stechert Arena in Bamberg, Germany.
Ross currently stands with 25 wins, 2 losses and 16 knockouts in his portfolio. On the other hand, Pablo stands with 26 wins, 1 loss and 13 knockouts in his portfolio. Even though both fighters are more or less of the same calibre, Pablo is the favourite
for the fight as he dethroned Steve Cunningham, something Ross could not do two years back.
Nevertheless, Ross insists he has only become better with time.
“I have matured since my last title bout and gained more experience. That will show on September 15,” said Ross in his recent interview. The Canadian fighter landed in Germany on September 1 and is currently acclimatizing with the region.
When asked as to how his upcoming opponent Pablo performed against Steve Cunningham, Ross revealed, “I didn’t pay too much attention to that fight. I just know that I will have to box smart. His strengths are his speed and power. I will have to be careful
with that. His weaknesses will show once he is inside the ring with me.”
Ross also spoke of his overall physique, and his advantages and disadvantages at the cruiserweight level.
“I have always been quite small for a Cruiserweight. Throughout my career, my opponents have mostly been taller than me,” he asserted.
Ross is not surprised knowing his upcoming opponent is bigger than, as he insists he used to of fighting bigger guys. According to Ross, he is not intimidated by Pablo’s height.
Lastly, Ross expressed that he has always been positive regarding his fights. He feels he will beat Pablo on September 15 and rip his title off. According to Ross, the title rightfully belongs to him so he will get it back.
