Troy Trojans will be in action on coming Friday – Volleyball News
The Troy University women’s volleyball team, which has the official mascot of Trojans, is scheduled to open the 2012 season on coming Friday, August 24.
Trojans had an amazing run in the previous season under the command of head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. The team started out the 2011 season 12-4 and ended up with an overall record of 16-15. Trojans also posted 6-10 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. Kirkpatrick
led the team to great heights of fame and allowed his side to qualify for the postseason tournament for the first time in the history of Troy Volleyball Programme.
In the next run, Trojans are looking to build on their last year’s success. The team coached by Kirkpatrick will take part in the Benson Hospitality Bulldog Invitational from August 24-26. Ramsey Centre on the University of Georgia's campus in Athens, Ga.
will provide the backdrop for the season opening tournament for Trojans. Teams from Georgia State, Georgia, and Georgia Southern will go against Trojans on different days. Trojans will also play an exhibition match against Slovenian national volleyball team
on August 28.
Trojans will return to Troy for their home opener against Auburn on Tuesday, August 28. Kirkpatrick showed a great concern for the first match in front of local audience. He stated: “Our home opener against Auburn is a really big match for us. We always
battle them pretty well, and with that being the first home match, it will help set the tempo for our season.”
Next up, the team will go to Martin, Tennessee, in order to participate in the First State Skyhawk Invitational, where Troy squad will be joined by UT-Martin, Kennesaw State and Alabama State in the competition. The tournament will complete its length from
August 31 to September 1.
Owls Invitational will be the third tournament of the year that Trojans will attend. The two-day campaign will run from September 7-8. Before the start of conference matches, Trojans will attend the ASU Invitational in Montgomery, Alabama from Sept. 14-15.
“We scheduled some SEC teams early in the year to get ourselves moving in the right direction. We look to try to improve on our standing in the Sun Belt from last year and we had a really good spring to keep us going in that direction and we can't wait to
begin play in 2012,” concluded Kirkpatrick.
The Troy volleyball team has undergone extensive training and practice for the 2012 regular season. Team currently enjoys a good form and has a high on ambition to do well.
