Troy Tulowitzki impresses as Colorado Rockies defeat New York Mets 7-6 – Part 2
The Colorado Rockies started to gain some momentum in the eighth inning as Carlos Gonzalez brought in Dexter Fowler for a 5-4 lead over the Mets. Also in the eighth inning, Troy Tulowitzki hit a brilliant home-run allowing Gonzalez to come in and to take
the score to 7-4 in favour of the Rockies.
Tulowitzki had a tremendous day, as he performed brilliantly with both bat and ball. His fielding was superb and he backed the pitcher up perfectly. The Mets were starting to show signs of despair as they were down by two runs in the eighth inning and it
seemed that the Rockies were building some momentum this late in the game.
The New York Mets began to fight back as it seemed they were not finished in the eighth inning when David Wright smashed a 390-feet homer to bring the score to 7-5. Wright was having a tremendous game against the Rockies and his homer began to worry those
in the Rockies’ dugout. Also in the eighth inning, Ike Davis hit a single that allowed Carlos Beltran to score and bring the score to 7-6.
However it was just not enough as the Rockies held on for a close 7-6 victory over the Mets. Both teams fought hard as the Mets were only down by one run at the end of the game. The Rockies once again showed off their brilliant team work and ability to take
teams head on for a victory. The Mets will be disappointed as they played aggressively only to come undone in the eighth inning by a mistake from their pitcher Bobby Parnell as he threw the ball over the catchers’ head that allowed Fowler to score a run.
"I rushed it and I threw it to the backstop," Parnell said. "I knew Fowler was a good runner, so I tried to get rid of it as fast as I could and executed poorly."
It seemed like luck was on the side of the Rockies as the game was very close in the end. The Rockies are playing some tremendous baseball and showing the rest of the teams in the League that they are a force to be reckoned with during the regular season
play. The Mets showed some good fighting spirit, but were caught short from a simple error which ended up costing them the game in the end.
It will be interesting to see how far the Rockies will be able to carry their winning momentum into their next match-up. The Mets will be looking to improve their performance and increase their efforts to avoid simple mistakes and errors which prove costly.
