Troy Tulowitzki shines as Colorado Rockies beat Houston Astros 7-6 - MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ short-stop, Troy Tulowitzki had a notable day with the bat as he had two RBIs including two runs and went 2-for-3 with an average of .305 in the Rockies’ 7-6 victory against the Houston Astros at Coors Field, Colorado on August 24.
In the initial five innings, both teams scored their respective runs to move the score-board. During the first inning, Astros got off to a decent start as they added two runs while the Rockies scored four runs at the bottom of first inning to get a 4-2 lead.
Carlos Lee doubled to deep right-centre and J.B. Shuck scored the first run.
The second run for Astros was taken by Lee when Jimmy Paredes drove a single-run shot towards right-field and Brian Bogusevic occupied third base. On the other hand, Eric Young Jr. posted the first run for Rockies when Dexter Fowler tripled to deep left-centre.
The second run was taken by Fowler when Carlos Gonzalez bunted a single-run drive to right-field.
Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer (359 feet) towards left-field and Gonzalez contributed one run to end the four-run campaign for Rockies. At the top of second inning, Astros tied the game 4-4 by taking two runs. Clint Barmes hit a one-run homer (452 feet)
to centre-field and Carlos Corporan added a tie run when Wandy Rodriguez singled off right-field.
In the third inning, Astros went ahead 5-4 when Matt Downs scored a tie-breaking run. Paredes was grounded out to first base and Bogusevic again occupied third base to end the third inning. Rockies’ batters also kept them alive as they contributed two runs
during fourth inning to go-ahead with 6-5 lead.
Gonzalez struck a two-run homer (431 feet) towards centre-field and Young Jr. posted a tie-breaking run for Rockies. During fifth inning, Astros again levelled the score-board with 6-6 when Bogusevic hit a sacrifice fly towards centre-field and Downs scored
a single run. The pitchers limited the runs from the sixth to ninth inning of the game.
Rockies’ starter, Aaron Cook was expensive with the ball as he pitched his five innings with an ERA of 5.47. He had three strike-outs on his 76 pitches and permitted 11 hits, six runs, one walk, one home-run and five earned runs. In the 10th inning,
Tulowitzki posted a tie-breaking run to give the Rockies a 7-6 lead. Consequently, Rockies swept the Astros 3-0 in a three-game series at Colorado.
