Troy Tulowitzki shines as Colorado Rockies beat San Diego Padres 5-3 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ short-stop, Troy Tulowitzki was outstanding with the bat as he hit a tie-breaking double and went 3-for-4 in the Rockies’ 5-3 win against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, San Diego on June 8.
No score was contributed from any batter during the first inning as the batters played sluggish shots. Jason Bartlett was grounded out to short-stop while Chase Headley was got out to left-field at the bottom of the first inning.
The Padres got off the mark in the second inning and led 1-0 when Alberto Gonzalez was grounded out to short-stop and Ryan Ludwick completed his single run. The Rockies went ahead 2-1 during the third inning as their batters added two runs. Todd Helton struck
a solo homer (361 feet) to right-field while Tulowitzki scored one run on the drive of Ty Wigginton to right-field and Seth Smith occupied the third base.
In the fourth inning, no run was added on the score-board. The Rockies extended their lead 3-1 during the fifth inning when Tulowitzki singled to right-field and Helton added one run for his team. The game was tied in the sixth inning when the Padres contributed
two runs.
Headley scored his first run of the game in the sixth inning while Brad Hawpe moved to second base on a wild pitch of Aaron Cook. The second run during the sixth inning was taken by Hawpe when Gonzalez singled off to right-field.
Seventh and eighth inning passed without any run as the pitchers raised the potential of their teams by giving no run. Cook was little bit shaky with the ball as he pitched just over five innings with an ERA of 4.76 and allowed three runs on six hits with
three earned runs. He was able to strike-out four batters and permitted four walks on 88 pitches.
Cook commented on his feelings and said, “I felt pretty good. Of course, I walked four guys, which cost me later in the game by not being able to finish the sixth inning. But I was able to use my secondary pitches effectively.”
Tulowitzki doubled to right centre-field while Carlos Gonzalez and Helton contributed last two runs to get a 5-3 lead in the ninth inning. The Padres missed scoring opportunities during the ninth inning when Eric Patterson was got out in left-field.
