Troy Tulowitzki sparks as Colorado Rockies defeat San Diego Padres, 12-7 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ shortstop, Troy Tulowitzki, had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 3-for-5 with triple RBIs in the Rockies’ 12-7 victory against the San Diego Padres, at Coors Field, Colorado, on May 13.
The Rockies started their game pretty well as they scored three runs in the first inning and led-off, 3-0. Carlos Gonzalez took an RBI single and posted two runs on the sacrifice fly of Seth Smith. Jonathan Herrera singled at the end of first inning to complete
the three-run campaign. On the other hand, the Padres were score-less during the first inning.
Gonzalez expressed his excitement and said, “We all know we can be the best offensive team in the league. It's just that we need to show it. We've just got to continue to do the same thing.”
The Padres initiated their first run in the second inning when Cameron Maybin hit a solo homer against the Rockies’ starter, Jorge De La Rosa.
Maybin, while speaking about the game said, “It's the approach. I was just hitting a lot of balls to the left side of the field, so the approach was to back it up, trust my hands and trust my ability, just try to start using the whole field a little bit
more.”
The Rockies added two runs in the second inning when Smith and Gonzalez jointly posted two runs. The scorecard moved to 5-1 at the end of second inning. No score was added by either side in the third inning. Both the teams posted one run each in the fourth
inning, to move the scorecard, 6-2. Tulowitzki struck his tenth homer of the season to add one run for his team, while Maybin singled-off the right-centre field spot.
Chase Headley scored a single run to lessen the trail of the Padres, while the Rockies added two runs in the fifth inning to take a 8-3 lead. Ryan Ludwick and Maybin both contributed two runs for the Padres during sixth inning, while Tulowitzki scored another
single to boost the Rockies’ lead. At the end of sixth inning, the Rockies were leading the game, 9-5.
The Padres cut-off their deficit to 9-7 in the seventh inning, when Adrian Gonzalez hit an RBI single and Brad Hawpe walked on the loaded bases. The eighth inning proved to be fruitful for the Rockies, as they scored three runs in it. Ryan Spilborghs and
Ty Wigginton both gave three runs collectively to put the Rockies on top with 12-7. The ninth inning passed away score-less.
De La Rosa was expensive as he permitted five runs on nine hits including five earned runs and three walks in 5 2/3 inning pitches. He gave away only one homer and struck-out three batters.
