Troy Tulowitzki sparks as Colorado Rockies defeat Washington Nationals 6-3 - MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ short-stop, Troy Tulowitzki had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 3-for-4 with an average of .291 and posted two runs with one RBI in the Rockies’ 6-3 victory against the Washington Nationals at Coors Field, Colorado on August 4.
Nationals got off to a good start as they added one run to move their score-card 1-0. Michael Morse drove a single-run shot towards centre-field, Rick Ankiel posted a single run and Ryan Zimmerman moved to second base to end the first inning. In the second
and third inning, the pitchers showed a vital role through their outstanding pitches as they did not allow even a single run during these innings.
During the second inning, the Nationals’ catcher, Wilson Ramos singled off left-centre but at the right-field, Ian Desmond and Ankiel both flied out towards centre-field. Ross Detwiler sacrificed to catcher and Ramos occupied second base. Similarly, the
Rockies’ batters also looked immobilised during the second and third inning.
Rockies levelled the game 1-all at the bottom of the fourth inning when Todd Helton scored a single run on the drive of Ty Wigginton towards centre-field. Tulowitzki moved to second base to end the fourth inning. Rockies again scored one in the fifth inning
to go-ahead 2-1. Eric Young Jr. singled off centre-field and Chris Iannetta posted a tie-breaking run.
Tulowitzki homered (444 feet) towards left-centre to take the Rockies’ lead 3-1 during the sixth inning. The batters failed to play steady shots in the seventh inning and were grounded out on easy pitches. Rockies’ starter, Esmil Rogers was little bit shaky
as he pitched his five innings with an ERA of 6.35 and permitted seven hits, one earned run and two walks. He was able to strike-out six batters on his 112 pitches.
Rockies put three runs at the bottom of the eighth inning to get a 6-1 lead. Helton, Tulowitzki and Wigginton each made one run to complete a three-run campaign. On the other side, the Nationals were able to score just two runs in the ninth inning to reduce
their lead 6-3. Brian Bixler and Ankiel both added two runs for the Nationals when Zimmerman doubled to deep centre-field.
As a result, the Rockies led off the four-game series 1-0 played at Coors Field.
