Troy Tulowitzki’s double RBIs help Colorado Rockies defeat Cincinnati Reds 3-2 - MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ short-stop, Troy Tulowitzki had an outstanding day with the bat as he hit a two-run homer including two RBIs and went 1-for-3 with an average of .301 in the Rockies’ 3-2 victory against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati
on August 9.
The batters were struck-out without adding some valuable runs for their teams during first inning. At the top of first inning, Eric Young Jr. and Carlos Gonzalez both struck-out swinging while at the second base, Dexter Fowler grounded out. Same is the case
with Reds’ batters as Edgar Renteria singled off centre-field but at third base, Drew Stubbs grounded out and Brandon Phillips flied out.
Reds got off the mark during second inning when Dontrelle Willis tripled towards right-field and Ramon Hernandez posted a single run to give his team a 1-0 lead. In third inning, the pitchers again restricted the batters from taking runs.
Rockies’ starter, Esmil Rogers surrendered eight hits, two runs, two earned runs and two walks in his six inning pitches and gave up these runs with an ERA of 5.85. He had six strike-outs on his 111 pitches. At the top of fourth inning, the Rockies went
ahead by taking two runs but the Reds levelled the game 2-2 by adding one run at the bottom of fourth inning.
Rogers said, “I just want them to give me the opportunity to pitch. I know I can do it. I'm not thinking about it. I'm just trying to make my pitches.”
Rockies’ manager, Jim Tracy commented on Rogers and said, “Credit Esmil with a gutsy performance. His pitch count got up there, because of the amount of traffic he dealt with.”
Tulowitzki struck a solo homer towards left-field while Gonzalez completed a single run to end the two-run campaign for Rockies. On the other side, Renteria hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to pitcher and Todd Frazier scored a single run for Reds. In
fifth inning, Rockies contributed one run to go-ahead with a 3-2 lead.
Chris Iannetta posted one run on the score-board when Fowler hit a single-run shot to centre-field. Rogers moved to third and Young Jr. occupied second base, respectively. Reds’ batters missed some scoring chances during the following innings and failed
to overcome in a thrilling encounter. However, Rockies led off 2-0 in a four-game series played at Cincinnati.
