Trsah dump treasure?

Okay, this is gonna sound weird.

Can anyone just enter a trash disposal area, and pick up whatever they want?

I'm an artist looking for plastic chips and game pieces to mosaic with.

Not really, no.  In MOST states trash or "dumpster diving" is illegal.  I think the only exception to that is Nevada, go figure.  But if you don't get caught in the act you can do pretty much whatever you want.  And face it, if you do get caught, what are they going to do, take you to jail over some trash?  Most people wouldn't care.

Also, if you are able to go to the landfill, they really don't care what you leave with.  My state doesn't allow anyone but workers to enter the actual landfill, so you might want to check.
