Question:

Truck Problems Please Help?

I own a 1993 Dodge Dakota with a V6 engine and has about 150,000 miles on it.

My check engine light is on and my truck has been idling erratically. However, I fix the problem of it running rough but it still lopes. My truck shakes when I take it for a drive and it seems like it has less power like when I try to speed up it takes longer to get up to a certain speed. If I leave the truck in park to idle it idles around 500rpms which shakes my truck a little.

So far this month I replaced the EGR valve, IAC unit, spark plugs, air filter, brake booster, master cylinder, and fuel filter. I checked my fuel pump in the gas tank and it looks almost brand new and it works so that can't be the problem. I put fuel injector cleaner into my gas tank today which seemed to help a little but my truck still lacks power when accelerating. The only parts I haven't changed yet is the o2 sensor and the fuel injectors.

So what could be the problem?

Issue- 3.9l V6 engine has been lacking power and shakes when accelerating.

Thanks

P.S I'm not going to a mechanic so do not tell me to go. :)

  1. Its your money your time. sometimes it cheaper to go to the mechanic then replacing good parts trying to find the problem Check air and fuel filters.

  2. A lot of auto parts stores will check the computer codes for you for free, it could save you a lot of guess work..check for vacuum leaks (you can spray the vacuum lines with WD40 while it is running if there is a leak the idle speed will change.....)

  3. first off i would recommend checking your spark plugs .. sometime they can be corroded or 1 of them could be misfiring .. even if its slightly gapped off a little you know they say spark plugs come pre gapped thats b.s you need to check that out aswell... also check the cap and rotor is its off timing that can also cause you to run off idle... check the spark plug wires make sure they are tightly secured after checking cap and rotor ..

FINALLY ... EVERYTIME YOU CHECK SOMETHING ON YOUR CAR.... AND ADJUST SOMETIME UNPLUG THE POSITIVE CABLE ON YOUR BATTERY TO RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ...

EVENTUALLY AFTER YOU START REPLACING AND ADJUSTING THE MINOR STUFF I LISTED ... WHEN YOU FIX THE PROBLEM THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WONT COME ON WHEN THE PROBLEM IS FIXED NOW IF YOU DONT FIX THE PROBLEM BUT YOU DO UNPLUG THE BATTERY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL JUST COME BACK ON ... LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!
