  1. two words:

    government employee

  2. What you don't have a coin you could flip?  The best job for you is to do what you like and what you're  best suited for.  Everybody can't be a police officer even if  it pays good or has a good retirement or good benefits.  The same could be said about truck drivers .  You have to decide based on what you are best able to do based on the skills and abilities you have as well as what you will be most happy doing.  I mean think about it you're asking total strangers(some stranger than others) on Yahoo answers to pick your career for you.

  3. Why ask such a question? Police officer pays more, but you need to be TRAINED to do it. It's no fat cops eating donuts all day long. It's serious ****.

You need to go to a police academy, but you need to start by going to a police CADET academy.

Cadets learn the basic skills like radio codes, report taking, basic speaking skills through demonstrations and role plays and assignments, etc. but don't have the training to handle big stuff, so they do foot patrols and secure buildings/sporting events, etc. They do not carry weapons.

Once you complete the cadet course, you can move up to a police academy where you get gun training, cop car driving skills (alot different than other cars, plus you have to drive on this oil slick and try to keep control of the car), and lots and lots of other police skills. I can't explain it because I haven't been there.

Oh and every police officer has to get tazed. It's like getting set on fire throughout your body. You most likely pass out, but people will hold you so you don't hurt yourself when you fall.

Also, the intensity of a police job depends on the city. If you live in a small little town, it'll be boring, rarely any calls. If you live in Oakland, it can be highly dangerous and you'll be swamped with police calls with more intense calls. All police jobs are dangerous. Many officers have died on the job.

It's not easy that's for sure. You should try working at a jail first as a security gaurd. That **** will eff you up. If you survive it, go for being a cadet, then work your way up.

You could also train to be a police dispatcher, a detective, a K9 officer (advanced), a negotiator (super advanced), a Community Service Officer (they are NOT police officers).......

  4. My husband has done both...definitely being a cop is better. Job security, pay, family.
