Question:

Truck driving question?

I'm looking to become a truck driver but I do not have a choffers licensee or a CDL. I understand in order for me to be a driver I need either one.

I want to be able to drive a (UPS size truck not a 18 wheeler) and have a standard route. I would like to work a shift like 4am-6:00pm or something like that. Do you have any ideas what companies there are like that?

I also need to learn how to drive a stick shift. Do you know any companies that have manual transmission?

What would you reccemend a young kid (21) like me to do?

What are some good companies to work for good benefits, hours...etc

Do I need o go to trucking school? Or can I get by just taking the test.

Last Note: I've been toldthat some companies make you get your own sales route. Is it possible I can stay away from that and Just deliver the goods from A to B? or do I have to have to make my own sales?

Thanks

nick

  1. If you cannot drive a standard you need to learn that skill be for you even think of a job doing it

i can drive any thing from an old tracktor with tripple sticks to a semi witha dual stick in it and when you know that the clutch is just to start going and you don't grind the gears then maybe you should think about it

  2. Most straight trucks are automatic an if its under 26,001 pounds you dont need a cdl

  3. being a trucker myself maybe i can help.you only need a cdl if you will b driving a vehicle with a gross weight of 26000 pounds.there are 2 types of cdl. class a and class d.class a is required for all combination vehicles(tractor/trailer) and class d covers everything else.also there are different endorsements for haz-mat tankers and passengers as well as doubles and triples.all require knowledge of air brakes.get a cdl manuel and it will explain all that
