My husband is in truck driving school in KY. We live in PA but they are telling him he will need to turn in his PA lic. and get a Ky out the in order to do the driving test. Can they do this? i thought you had to live in a state in order to get a lic? and then he has 60 days after he is done with school to get his pa lic back. Can anyone tell me if they had to do this when they were in trucking school?

  1. Depending on what state he is tested in, that is who will issue the license.  When he moves back to his home state, he will have to apply at the DMV to have it transferred to his home state.  I did not have to do that since I was tested in the same area as I live, but many have to do what your husband is doing, so not to worry.  Just make sure to apply for the transfer as soon as he returns home.

  2. KY can only give a KY lic.He should not  have to retest in PA to obtain a PA lic. They should transfer it.(like he's moving from KY to PA) but he has to do it within 30 days (60 days for non CDL)
