  1. low oil pressure low oil. check oil see if there is any white/tal sludge. that would indecate water/oil mix. not good

  2. Actually GM, I think it was more on the Chevy side of the house, was having problems with it's bigger motors.  They had a misadjustment with some of their engines, if I remember correctly it was the with the valves.  It isn't serious and once the engine is warmed then it goes away.  But this was not serious enough for them to recall, but I know a lot of guys with this problem with their engines.  My buddy uses the Mystery oil in with his oil and it isn't as noticable.

  3. 1. Could be oil needs to be changed or topped up.

    2. Could be wrong TYPE of oil.

    3. Could be wrong type of fuel (octane rating too low).

    4. Could be cooling fan. Radiator could be low on coolant or on its way to officially quiting.

    5. Could be just old age. With high mileage, the engine just isnt as tight fitting especially when cold.

  4. Typical GM engine will tick untill you get some oil flowing over those valves. Try putting some StP top oil or Bardol so you have some extra lubercation to silence the ticking upon start up.

  5. Get your valves adjusted, if not then switch to Pennzoil I've heard it silences the tick.

  6. Most common reasons for ticking noise initially based on engine speed is hydraulic valve lifters until they get filled with oil (wrong oil viscosity or dirty), or exhaust manifold leak (loose or broken bolt or crack).  But anything run by the engine could make a noise based on engine rpm (cam or idler pulley, alternator, water pump, power steering, AC compressor).

I once had a ticking noise and did not realize what it was until the next time I changed spark plugs.  I had replaced plugs in sub-zero weather and apparently one of them was only finger tight (forgot to use wrench).

A stone or other object in the tire tread could make a ticking noise while moving.
