Truck phobia!?

when driving I always have a problem when the trucks come beside me. I slightly apply the brakes and try to keep away from them as much as possible and sometimes in the middle of the highways I directly apply brakes when I get a big truck beside me and that is so dangerous. When beside trucks lorries or all other heavy vehicles I feel any moment they are going to run over my car and smash me or the load on the car is going to collapse and fall all over me! how can I overcome this phobia and be able to drive beside them normally

  1. you know you got the phobia so toughen up and get over it.

  2. why dont you speed up and drive past them?

  3. Mind over matter.

You have to believe that the truck is not going to harm you. The driver of the truck is just as worried about a collision as you are. You need to stay focused on the road ahead of you not whats in the other lane unless you are planning to go into the other lane to merge or pass.

  4. Relax your shoulders and you have more control of the wheel.

Don't try to pass them on a curve cause it's scary. Look at the car in front and see how much room there is left in their lane - plenty! And you have plenty too.

Think of them as a sheltering buddy instead of a monster.

    Good luck!

  5. Commercial truck drivers have a lot of experience and have to pass a special test to drive those big rigs.

When a large truck passes you, maintain your speed, don't brake, and look straight and well ahead up the center of your lane.

If you look over at that big truck, your hands will tend to steer where your eyes are focussed and therefore you will steer towards that big truck.

With practice, you will  become more confident about driving with trucks.

Also, following trucks, you should be able to see their side mirrors. Otherwise they can't see you. Never pull up along the side of a big truck if it's signal is flashing.

  6. just drive in the fast lane on motorways! and if on normal roads just change lanes or drive a bit faster ...

or you could go to a place with lots of trucks and drive round for ages and after a while you will notic none of them are falling over or running you over and you won't be scared anymore
